A cleaner working in a West Perth home should never improvise with chemicals. More product is not automatically more effective, and mixing the wrong household cleaners can create a dangerous reaction. The first clean should settle which products are used, who supplies them and where they are stored.
Bleach, acids, ammonia-based products and other household chemicals must not be combined. A cleaner follows the product label and uses one suitable method at a time. If an unknown product is already on a surface, they do not add another chemical and hope for the best.
Where a surface has been treated by somebody else immediately before the visit, tell us what was used. The cleaner may need to rinse it, leave it alone or return to that task later.
Smurfettes can bring ordinary cleaning products and equipment. Some participants prefer their own product because of fragrance, surface care, allergy advice or a familiar routine. That can be discussed at the quote and written into the scope.
A bottle without a label, a product decanted into a drink container or a homemade mixture with unknown ingredients will not be used. Clear labelling protects everyone in the household.
Stone, timber, laminate, stainless steel, acrylic, glass and older vinyl do not all respond to the same product. The cleaner needs to know about a delicate or specially sealed surface before scrubbing begins. Where the finish is uncertain, a gentle method and a small test area are safer than a strong product.
Cleaning cannot reverse etching, worn sealant, permanent staining or damage already inside a material. We explain that limit instead of repeatedly applying harsher chemicals.
Some tasks need a window or exhaust fan while the product is used. Tell us if a window must remain closed, an alarm is sensitive to aerosols, or another resident cannot be in the room while a particular product is present. The visit can be ordered so that room is cleaned first and aired before it is used again.
Products are returned to the agreed cupboard or storage area with lids closed and labels visible. They are not left on a bathroom floor, decanted into an unmarked bottle or placed beside food. A participant’s preferred storage system is recorded so the cleaner does not move chemicals to a “tidier” but less safe location.
Fortnightly visits suit many homes. Weekly cleaning can help where bathrooms, floors or laundry become difficult within a shorter gap. Monthly cleaning works where routine jobs are covered and the participant needs help with heavier domestic tasks.
The schedule should match the useful work and the approved support. It is not based on how many products sit in the cupboard.
Deep cleaning may include the oven interior, rangehood filters, tracks, skirtings or inside cupboards by agreement. One-off cleaning covers a defined domestic need, while vacate cleaning is an end-of-tenancy scope. Stronger chemicals are not assumed merely because the booking is called a deep clean.
One-off, deep and vacate cleaning are not automatically funded by the NDIS. The participant’s disability-related needs and approved supports determine whether the domestic work can be claimed.
Washing, drying, folding, putting away and changing the bed can be part of the visit. Detergent, stain treatment and drying instructions should be agreed. We do not combine unfamiliar chemicals on a stain or use bleach on a garment unless the label and instruction clearly allow it.
Domestic cleaning may be funded when disability affects the participant’s ability to maintain the home and assistance with household tasks is included in the plan. It is not an automatic entitlement and the funding must be confirmed.

In a home shared with others, funded cleaning relates to the participant’s own disability-related needs. The scope separates participant areas, shared areas and ordinary work belonging to other residents.
Self-managed participants arrange the service directly and receive the invoice. Plan-managed participants provide their manager’s billing details. NDIA-managed participants need a registered provider, and Smurfettes is registered.
We record the rooms, priorities, access, products, surface warnings, ventilation needs and storage instructions. Show us any product that must or must not be used, and identify unlabelled bottles so they can be excluded.
