NDIS Cleaning Northbridge

Medication often sits in the same Northbridge rooms a cleaner needs to work in: on a kitchen bench, beside the bed, in a bathroom cabinet or next to a drink bottle. It remains private health property, not an item to sort while tidying. A good cleaning scope says exactly how the cleaner works around it.

Medication is a no-touch item by default

Smurfettes cleaners do not open packets, move tablets into another container, refill an organiser, read dosage instructions or decide that something is expired. Those tasks are medication support, not domestic cleaning.

If medicine is left on a surface that needs wiping, the safest options are for the participant or authorised support person to move it before the visit, or for the cleaner to leave that small area untouched.

Keep labels, containers and order exactly as found

A row of boxes may be arranged by time, purpose or the participant’s own memory system. Making it look neater can make it less usable. The same applies to a dosette box, Webster pack, inhaler, refrigerated medication or a written chart.

The written scope can identify a tray, shelf or bedside table as a no-touch zone. The cleaner can vacuum below it and dust the surrounding clear space without disturbing the system.

Spills need the right response

An ordinary water mark or household product spill may be within the clean. Loose tablets, broken glass from a medicine container, a used needle or an unidentified liquid are different. The cleaner stops, keeps others away from the immediate area and tells the participant or nominated contact.

Sharps and clinical waste do not go into an ordinary household bin. They require the correct container and disposal process.

Privacy applies even when the label is visible

A cleaner may see a name or medicine while working. That does not give permission to discuss it with another resident, neighbour or worker. Information is only raised with the participant or nominated contact when it directly affects the safe completion of the visit.

Refrigerated items and kitchen cleaning

We do not take medication out of a refrigerator to clean the shelf unless the participant or authorised person has made a safe arrangement. Temperature-sensitive items should not be left on a bench while a cleaner decides how long the job will take.

The rest of the kitchen can still be cleaned: benches, sink, cooktop, splashback, cupboard fronts, appliance exteriors and floors, with the medicine area left exactly as agreed.

What a regular clean usually covers

How often to arrange cleaning

Weekly cleaning can help when essential rooms become difficult within a few days. Fortnightly is a common regular arrangement. Monthly visits work where everyday tasks are covered and the cleaner is needed for bathrooms, floors and heavier domestic work.

The useful frequency depends on the participant’s support needs and approved plan, not the number of medicines kept in the home.

One-off, deep and vacate cleaning

A deep clean may include tracks, skirtings, the oven interior, rangehood filters or inside cupboards by agreement. A one-off clean addresses a defined domestic job, while vacate cleaning is a separate end-of-tenancy service. No version of the clean includes medication handling.

One-off, deep and vacate cleaning are not automatically funded by the NDIS. Ask the plan manager, support coordinator or NDIA contact whether the proposed household support fits the participant’s approved plan.

Laundry and linen

Washing, drying, folding, putting away and changing the bed can be included. Patches, pumps, medicine containers or personal items found in pockets are not discarded. We stop that item and ask rather than making a health decision.

How NDIS funding for cleaning works

Domestic cleaning may be funded when disability affects the participant’s ability to maintain their home and assistance with household tasks is included in the approved supports. It is not automatically available to every participant.

Smurfettes Cleaning Service is a Registered NDIS Provider, registration number 4053371406. The funding decision belongs with the plan manager, support coordinator or NDIA. We can describe the work and issue a clear quote, but we cannot determine what the plan covers.

For a shared home, the funded work must connect to the participant’s disability-related needs. The scope separates participant areas, shared areas and the ordinary chores of other residents.

Self-managed, plan-managed and NDIA-managed

Self-managed participants book directly and receive the invoice. Plan-managed participants provide the manager’s billing details. NDIA-managed participants use a registered provider, and Smurfettes is registered.

Common questions

Will the cleaner put tablets into an organiser?

No. Medication assistance is outside domestic cleaning.

Can you wipe the shelf where medicine is stored?

Yes, if the participant or authorised person has safely cleared it, or if the agreed method does not require the items to move.

What happens if a cleaner finds a loose tablet?

They stop that part of the job and tell the participant or nominated contact. They do not guess what it is or place it in a bin.

Do I need to explain my health condition?

No. Give us the practical no-touch and safety instructions needed for the clean.
