A person returning to a Shenton Park home after hospital or rehabilitation does not need a show-home clean. They need a usable bathroom, a clear route, fresh linen and a kitchen that can handle the first few days. Those practical priorities should decide the job.
If a discharge date is known, the clean can be arranged before the person comes home. The useful information is simple: when access is available, which rooms will be used, what equipment is arriving and which tasks matter on day one. A family member, nominee or support coordinator can help organise access, but the participant’s preferences still lead the scope.
Dates sometimes move. We do not promise a commencement time before checking cleaner capacity for the Shenton Park address, and we do not charge for work that has not been agreed. If the date changes, tell us early so the visit can be moved rather than rushed into the wrong day.
The first priority may be a clear, dry route from the entry to the bedroom, bathroom and kitchen. That means vacuuming or mopping the floors, moving cleaning equipment out of the way as each area is finished, and leaving doors in the position requested. It does not mean deciding that personal belongings are clutter and moving them without permission.
A cleaner can clean reachable surfaces and floors. We cannot install rails, shift heavy furniture, assess falls risk or decide where mobility equipment should go. Those decisions belong with the participant and the appropriate health or support professional.
After time away, the rooms used immediately deserve attention first. In the bathroom that may mean the toilet, shower, basin, mirrors and a thoroughly rinsed floor. In the bedroom it may mean dusting reachable surfaces, vacuuming, making the bed and changing linen that has been left ready.
If the booked time is limited, we agree what can wait. A spare room, decorative shelving or windows may be lower priority than the toilet and the bed. That order is written down so a cleaner does not spend the first hour making a little-used room look perfect.
A kitchen clean can cover benches, sink, cooktop, splashback, cupboard fronts, appliance exteriors and floors. Dishes can be washed or stacked where agreed. We do not discard food because a date looks old, reorganise medication, or make dietary decisions. If a fridge needs cleaning, the participant or authorised contact decides what stays and what goes.
Domestic cleaning is not meal preparation, personal care or clinical support. Keeping those roles separate makes the service safer and keeps the invoice tied to the work actually delivered.
We can provide an ordinary household clean using suitable products and careful methods. We cannot promise hospital-grade decontamination, handle clinical waste, clean an active bodily-fluid spill, or follow a medical isolation protocol that requires specialist training. If a discharge plan calls for specialist infection control, that needs an appropriately qualified service.
This boundary is worth discussing before the visit, not discovering at the front door. It protects the participant, the cleaner and the support team from an unsafe assumption.
A one-off clean may be enough before the person returns. Weekly visits can help during an early recovery period, while fortnightly is a common ongoing rhythm. Monthly cleaning suits some homes where everyday tasks are already covered and the heavier work is what needs support.
The schedule can be reviewed as the participant’s capacity changes. More frequent cleaning should not continue by default when it is no longer useful, and less frequent cleaning should not be imposed when the gap is where hygiene becomes unmanageable.
A deep clean can include agreed work such as skirtings, tracks, door frames, inside the oven and behind items that can be moved safely. A vacate clean is a different job tied to leaving a tenancy. A one-off clean can prepare a home for a return, but the scope still has to fit the time and safe access available.
One-off, deep and vacate cleaning are not automatically NDIS funded. Approval depends on the participant’s disability-related needs, goals and supports already included in the plan.
Washing, drying, folding, putting away and changing the bed can form part of the visit. Before a return home, fresh sheets and clean towels may matter more than detailed dusting. Leave products and linen where they can be found, and tell us about any item that needs a particular wash cycle or must not go in a dryer.
Cleaning is not included in every NDIS plan. It may be funded when assistance with household tasks has been approved because the participant’s disability affects their ability to maintain the home, and the support is reasonable within the goals and funding already agreed.
Smurfettes Cleaning Service is a Registered NDIS Provider, registration number 4053371406. We do not decide what a plan pays for. A plan manager, support coordinator or NDIA contact should confirm the funding before the service begins.
Where other people live in the home, funded cleaning relates to the participant’s own disability-related support needs. It is not a general household clean charged entirely to one person’s plan. The written scope should identify participant areas, shared areas and anything the household arranges privately.
Self-managed participants arrange the service directly and receive the invoice. Plan-managed participants give us their plan manager’s invoicing details. NDIA-managed participants need a registered provider, which we are, and claims follow the agency process.
We walk through the home with the participant or authorised contact and write down rooms, tasks, priorities, access, products, communication preferences and anything that must not be touched. If the clean is being arranged before a discharge, the quote should separate the one-off preparation from any proposed regular service.
You receive a written quote before work starts. Cleaner availability for a specific Shenton Park address is confirmed on enquiry rather than assumed from the suburb name.
Smurfettes also provides NDIS cleaning in Karrakatta, Mount Claremont, Daglish, Jolimont, Crawley, Dalkeith, City Beach, Floreat, Wembley, West Leederville, Leederville, Swanbourne and Glendalough.
