Alkimos is still being built, and if you live in a street where blocks either side are under construction you already know what that does to a house. Cleaning a new home next to an active site is a different problem from cleaning an established one, and it is worth quoting on what is actually happening rather than on the floor plan.
The fine grey powder that comes off a building site is limestone, cement and sawdust, and it behaves badly. It is abrasive, so dragging a dry cloth or a dry mop across a floor covered in it can leave fine scratches on new vinyl plank and polished surfaces. It clings to glass rather than lifting off. It gets through window seals, under doors and into every track and sill in the house.
The practical answer is to lift it rather than push it around. Vacuum before mopping, use enough water on hard floors, change cloths often instead of spreading the same grit from room to room, and do tracks, sills and skirtings more regularly than you would in a finished street.
If there is active building work either side of you, tell us. It is the single biggest factor in how long a visit needs to take here, and it will drop back once the street is finished.
New surfaces are easy to damage in ways older ones are not. Fresh paint marks if it is scrubbed. New grout has not fully cured and does not want harsh chemicals early on. Vinyl plank and laminate flooring do not like being flooded. Matte tapware and black fittings scratch and spot far more readily than the chrome most people are used to.
So on a newer house we go lighter and more often rather than harder and occasionally. If you have builder’s care instructions or a warranty document that says how something should be cleaned, show us and we will follow it. That protects you, not us.
These are different jobs and they get confused constantly. A builder’s clean is the trade clean at handover: paint specks, plaster dust, stickers on windows, protective film, the works. A moving-in or pre-move clean is a domestic clean of a house that is already finished but has sat empty and dusty.
We do the second one. If you are moving into a new Alkimos home and want it done properly before the furniture arrives, that is straightforward and it is much easier to do while the place is empty.
While there is building going on nearby, more often is genuinely better, because dust that is lifted weekly never gets a chance to be walked into floors and fabric. Once the street is finished the same house usually needs noticeably less.
Fortnightly is the standard arrangement. Weekly is worth considering during the dusty phase. Monthly is fine in a settled street where you manage the day-to-day yourself. We are happy to change the cycle as the street changes rather than lock you into whatever suited two years ago.
A deep clean is the right call once the construction next door finally stops, to clear out everything that has settled into tracks, sills, skirtings, cupboard tops and the rangehood. It also covers inside the oven and behind what can be safely moved.
We also do one-off cleans after illness or a hospital stay, and vacate cleans at the end of a tenancy.
Washing, hanging or drying, folding, putting away and changing the bed can all be part of the visit. Worth knowing in a dusty street: washing left on the line on a windy day next to an active site does not come in clean, so it is often better to plan the laundry around the weather rather than the visit.
Cleaning is not included in every NDIS plan. Where it is funded, help with household tasks has been approved as a support connected to the participant’s disability, based on their goals, their assessed needs and the supports already approved. It is worked out individually and there is no standard entitlement.

Where a participant lives with a partner, children or housemates, funded cleaning relates to the participant’s own disability-related support needs rather than the whole household’s housework. We list the rooms and tasks in the quote so the scope is written down rather than assumed.
Self-managed participants arrange it with us directly and we invoice you. Plan-managed participants give us their plan manager’s details and we invoice there. NDIA-managed participants need a registered provider, which we are, so the claim goes through the agency.
We go through it with you at the house or over the phone: which rooms are in, how new the finishes are, whether there is building work nearby, how we get in and anything that should not be touched. You get a written quote before anything starts, and a time that works around the rest of your week.
